Ottawa Above Ground

Rooftop Garden Terrace

Seven floors above street level, the Rooftop Garden Terrace offers something Ottawa's ByWard Market neighbourhood has very little of: a planted, quiet, open-air space from which the city's skyline reveals itself in every direction - Parliament's Peace Tower to the west, the Gatineau Hills beyond the Ottawa River to the north, and the Rideau Canal corridor to the south. It functions as a genuine outdoor living room for hotel guests, a pre-dinner gathering space, and a morning destination for those who want the capital's skyline before the day has made demands on them. The garden is maintained by a local horticultural studio specialising in cold-climate planting that reflects the flora of the Ottawa Valley across all four seasons.

Rooftop Garden Terrace

360-Degree Capital Skyline

The terrace perimeter is designed to maximise unobstructed sightlines in every cardinal direction - a deliberate architectural choice that makes Parliament Hill visible on the western rail and the Gatineau escarpment visible on the northern edge simultaneously.

Ottawa Valley Planting Programme

The garden is planted in collaboration with a Gatineau-based horticultural studio using native species - wild bergamot, black-eyed Susan, Canadian columbine, and serviceberry - so the rooftop reflects the actual botanical character of the Ottawa Valley rather than generic ornamental planting.

Seasonal Fire Installations

Three linear gas-fire tables extending along the north rail extend the terrace's usable season from March through November, allowing guests to use the outdoor space on Ottawa's sharp shoulder-season evenings when the city's famous cold descends after sundown.

Sunrise Reservation Windows

Guests can reserve a specific section of the terrace for private early-morning use between 6 and 8 a.m. - a window popular with diplomatic guests who want uninterrupted contemplative time before full-day schedules and particularly dramatic in summer when Ottawa's golden hour arrives before 5:30 a.m.

Private Garden Events

The full terrace accommodates up to 80 guests in a standing reception format and up to 40 in a seated dinner arrangement - with Confluence's kitchen supplying a dedicated outdoor catering menu of cold and fire-finished dishes suited to the open-air setting.

Canada Day Viewing Package

On July 1st, the Rooftop Garden hosts an exclusive Canada Day package for up to 40 guests with reserved seating above the ByWard Market crowd, a full view of the Parliament Hill fireworks display, and a special menu built entirely around Canadian-origin ingredients - the single most sought-after experience the hotel produces each year.
